Lesson 12 of 12 · Scale

Scale-out roadmap and capability maturity

Scaling isn't "more agents". Scaling is repeatability: a stable platform, shared patterns, consistent governance, and a delivery motion that domain teams can execute without reinventing security and operations each time.

A maturity model

It helps executives understand where you are and what "next" means:

  • Assist: copilots and Q&A with guardrails.
  • Orchestrate: agents propose actions; humans approve.
  • Operate: agents execute inside constrained domains, with strong auditability.
  • Optimize: systematic feedback loops and continuous evaluation improvements.
  • Differentiate: proprietary workflows plus proprietary data give a competitive advantage.

The scaling playbook

  • Standardize the platform layer.
  • Create repeatable patterns for tool integration.
  • Enforce governance as code.
  • Build a shared evaluation and red-team suite.
  • Shift delivery to federated domain squads.

This is how you go from "a few agents" to "an agent operating model".
